Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye joyfully announced his triumph on Monday, having emerged victorious from a six-year legal confrontation with the Nigerian government. The Federal Capital High Court acquitted him of all 12 charges leveled against him, marking a significant moment in his fight for justice.

In a heartfelt post on X, Melaye expressed his gratitude, stating, “Justice served after 6 years. Justice delayed is never justice denied. God alone be praised. Sen Dino Melaye 12 – Federal Government and IGP 0. All cases won by God. PROF MIKE OZEKHOME AND RICKY TAFA THANK YOU. NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER.” His words reflect both relief and a sense of vindication after enduring a challenging legal ordeal.

Justice Sylvanus Oriji presided over the case in Maitama, dismissing charges related to Melaye’s allegations of an assassination attempt in 2017. The legal saga began in February 2018, following accusations that Melaye had falsely implicated Edward Onoja, who was then Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, in the supposed assassination plot.

The proceedings faced numerous delays, including the unfortunate passing of Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, who had been overseeing the case until December 31, 2017. Following an investigation that concluded Melaye’s allegations were baseless, the Attorney General’s Office formally charged him on January 31, 2018.

Throughout this tumultuous period, Melaye has contended with various accusations, including a claim in July 2018 that the Kogi State Police Command had attempted to take his life. In March 2019, he also alleged a conspiracy against him by the Kogi State government, which the authorities denied.
