Concerns are mounting regarding Nigeria’s criminal justice system following a leaked audio recording involving well-known crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. Activist lawyer Madubuachi Idam has brought these issues to light, emphasizing the implications of the revelations.

In the leaked audio, Bobrisky alleged that he paid a bribe of N15 million to officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have his money laundering charges dismissed. He further claimed that he did not actually serve his six-month sentence in Kirikiri prison but instead stayed in a lodge arranged by an influential figure.

Idam raised serious concerns about the state of Nigeria’s image and its justice administration, stating, “The image of Nigeria is now under trial, and the entire criminal justice administration in Nigeria is under scrutiny.” His remarks suggest that some convicted individuals may be allowed to serve their sentences outside of official custodial facilities, raising questions about fairness and accountability.

The lawyer underscored the necessity of treating these allegations as a pressing national issue rather than scapegoating individuals like Bobrisky or VeryDarkMan. He called for the protection of Bobrisky to encourage him to reveal the full extent of those involved in the alleged corruption. “We need to know the facts about where he spent his term of imprisonment, the charges he faced, and who received the bribe to drop some charges,” Idam urged.
