Lakurawa Terror Group Clashes with Kebbi Locals, 15 Dead

In a violent clash in Kebbi State, over 15 people have lost their lives following a confrontation between local residents of Mera community and the newly emerged terrorist group, Lakurawa. The incident, which took place near Mera in the Augie Local Government Area on Friday, has raised alarms about the growing threat of this group in the region.

Lakurawa, a group reportedly with links to ISIS, has been making waves in northern Nigeria, particularly in areas bordering the Sahel. The conflict began when members of the group attempted to steal livestock from a local herder. When the herder raised an alarm, the community swiftly mobilized, leading to an intense battle. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of 15 people, with several others injured.

Despite the losses, the locals managed to kill some of the terrorists, while others were wounded and retreated with their casualties. According to a local eyewitness, the surviving terrorists fled the scene, but the community successfully resisted their efforts.

The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, alongside the Commissioner of Police and the Emir of Argungu, visited the Mera community to offer condolences following the tragic incident.

A media aide to the Kebbi State Governor confirmed that the Lakurawa group is active in some parts of the state, but reassured the public that security forces are addressing the growing threat.
