Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, is set to be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring injury. This setback means he will miss crucial matches, including upcoming Premier League clashes against Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as key Champions League ties.

The 32-year-old Brazilian suffered the injury during Liverpool’s recent 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. He was substituted late in the second half after sustaining the injury, and medical tests have confirmed that his return is unlikely before the November international break. Alisson’s potential earliest return could be during Liverpool’s away match against Southampton on 24 November.

Premier League leaders Liverpool, under manager Arne Slot, will face Chelsea on 20 October, followed by a critical showdown with Arsenal the following week. Additionally, their Champions League campaign includes tough fixtures against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen in the coming weeks.

Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed the Crystal Palace match due to illness, is expected to step in as Alisson’s replacement. Kelleher filled this role last season when Alisson was sidelined with a similar injury.

Following the match against Crystal Palace, Slot acknowledged the challenge of losing their star goalkeeper: “We have to wait and see, but it will be a few weeks before he’s back. He’s clearly our number one, the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he’s injured, not just for him but for us as a team.”

Liverpool currently top the Premier League table with 18 points from seven matches, sitting one point ahead of defending champions Manchester City and Arsenal.
