Lobi Stars Appoint Mika Lönnström as New Head Coach

Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi has officially unveiled Mika Lönnström as the club’s new head coach. The Finnish tactician’s appointment was announced at a ceremony in Makurdi on Wednesday, with club chairman Philip Nongu emphasizing the move as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to improve its current standing in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
During the event, Nongu welcomed Lönnström to the team, highlighting his vast experience and passion for the game as key factors in his selection. The chairman also expressed confidence that the coach would help elevate Lobi Stars’ performance, steering the club away from the relegation zone. “The current position of the club is temporary,” Nongu said. “We are committed to repositioning the team and making it more competitive under my leadership.”
In his address, Nongu urged the players to maintain discipline and work cohesively under their new coach. He thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia for his continued support, emphasizing the state’s dedication to fostering football development.

James Iorpuu, a member of the club’s board, also congratulated Lönnström and reassured him of the support he would receive. He echoed Nongu’s optimism, stressing the governor’s commitment to ensuring the club competes at the highest level.
Daniel Amokachi, the club’s technical adviser, expressed his excitement about having Lönnström join the technical staff. He highlighted the importance of a strong work ethic and praised Lönnström’s reputation for developing young talent. “We have some promising young players, and we will focus on their development as we prepare for the transfer window,” Amokachi stated.
