MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) is set to roll out an extensive metering program in Enugu State, aiming to eliminate the issue of estimated billing. Dr. Ernest Mupwaya, the Managing Director of MainPower, revealed the company’s plan during a stakeholder engagement event on Wednesday. The initiative is part of a broader commitment to improving power delivery and customer service in the region.

Starting next week, the metering rollout will prioritize free installations in high-loss areas, with plans to install meters for all customers by 2027. This initiative aims to enhance billing accuracy, ensure fairness, and promote energy conservation, aligning with MainPower’s vision to improve service delivery and build customer trust. By accurately reflecting energy usage, the new metering program is expected to contribute to increased revenue and further enhance customer relations.

As a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), MainPower is focused on addressing the region’s unique electricity challenges, prioritizing transparency, efficiency, and greater customer engagement. The company also outlined its goal of providing 24/7 power supply across Enugu State within three years, beginning with urban and commercial areas.

In a strategic partnership with private investors and independent power producers (IPPs), MainPower plans to accelerate infrastructure development and meter installations. Engr. Chinedum Ukabara, Commissioner of the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), expressed strong support for the reforms, encouraging customers to stay up-to-date with their payments to ensure the success of the metering initiative.
