Workers of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have launched an indefinite strike, fueled by unresolved concerns regarding promotions and staff welfare. The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), affiliated with the Trade Union Congress, announced this decision following the management’s failure to address these critical issues after multiple discussions.

In a communiqué (SSASCGOC/NAFDAC/COMMUNIQUE/VOL.1) issued on October 4, 2024, the aggrieved employees emphasized that the strike was a necessary response after several meetings with management did not produce positive outcomes regarding promotions, salaries, and overall staff welfare. The directive to initiate the strike, effective from Monday, was signed by Comrade (Dr.) Ejor Michael, the Secretary of the TUC.

The press release clarified, “This notice serves to inform all staff that, after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to Management in the communiqué dated September 20, 2024, and in light of Management’s ongoing inaction on the outlined issues, another Congress of NAFDAC Staff was convened on Friday, October 4, 2024. After thorough discussions, Congress unanimously resolved to commence an indefinite nationwide strike across all NAFDAC formations, starting Monday, October 7, 2024.”

Furthermore, the statement directed all staff to cease operations and withdraw their services in accordance with the strike order. “This decision arises from the Management’s failure to address the significant concerns highlighted in the communiqué within the stipulated timeframe. The Congress finds this continued inaction unacceptable and emphasizes that the industrial action will persist until all demands in the communiqué are fully addressed.”

As part of the strike protocol, all staff members are advised to clear their personal belongings from their offices, as entry to any NAFDAC office will be prohibited during the strike period, regardless of rank or position. “SSASCGOC State and Zonal Coordinators are instructed to ensure strict adherence to this directive. Dear comrades, your cooperation is greatly valued to ensure the effectiveness of this indefinite nationwide strike action.”
