National Power Grid Collapses Again, Leaving Many in Darkness

The national power grid appeared to have collapsed once more on Tuesday, with reports confirming that power generation was lost around 1:39 PM. Just prior to this, the grid had reached a generation of 2,711 megawatts, down from an earlier peak of 3,631 megawatts.

Earlier in the day, power generation had peaked at 3,934.77 megawatts around 6 AM, but by the afternoon, the situation took a drastic turn. Between 2 PM and 3 PM, the grid’s hourly generation dropped to zero, plunging numerous regions into darkness.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) acknowledged the issue, stating, “The national grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 PM today.” TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the disruption resulted from a series of line and generator trippings, which destabilized the grid.

Mbah assured that a segment of the grid remained unaffected by the bulk power disruption. “TCN engineers are already working to quickly restore bulk power supply to the states affected by the partial disturbance. Presently, bulk power supply has been restored to Abuja at 2:49 PM, and we are gradually restoring it to other parts of the country,” she added.
