The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved a significant milestone, securing 9,034 convictions over the past three years. This accomplishment, highlighted by the agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Buba Marwa, was shared during the Island Club Business Luncheon held in Lagos on Tuesday.

Marwa disclosed that 52,901 drug traffickers, including 52 high-profile barons, were arrested within the same period. He noted that these figures reflect the pervasive and deeply entrenched nature of drug trafficking in Nigerian society.

Beyond arrests, the NDLEA seized an astonishing 8.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs and eradicated 1,572 hectares of cannabis farms. Marwa emphasized that these efforts underscore the agency’s unwavering dedication to curbing the drug menace that threatens the fabric of the nation.

Rotimi Olasode Martins, Chairman of the Island Club, commended Marwa’s leadership and commitment to tackling drug abuse. Martins highlighted the devastating impact of drug addiction, particularly on the youth, families, and the nation’s socio-economic stability.
