In what can only be described as a final, desperate move, Governor Godwin Obaseki and his PDP allies attempted to deceive the public yet again. Their latest attempt to control the narrative took a comical turn when rumors were spread, falsely claiming that APC candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo had been disqualified, and that LP’s Olumide Akpata had withdrawn from the race to support Asue Ighodalo.

These efforts failed miserably. Obaseki, Ighodalo, and their supporters are clearly feeling the heat as the political tide turns against them. Instead of focusing on solutions, they have resorted to misinformation, hoping to manipulate public opinion. The people of Edo, however, are not buying it.

Obaseki’s administration has had eight years to address Edo State’s challenges, yet it’s been one failure after another. From crumbling infrastructure and underfunded schools to a healthcare system in crisis, his track record speaks volumes. Now, as his political stronghold weakens, his team has shifted focus from governance to propaganda.

Even more striking is the role of Asue Ighodalo, Obaseki’s long-time economic adviser. For nearly a decade, Ighodalo has been at the heart of the Governor’s economic decisions—decisions that have led to stagnation. Despite his lack of results, the PDP is now pushing Ighodalo as the candidate for the state’s leadership. It’s a puzzling move, considering his track record of inaction.

The reality is clear: Obaseki and Ighodalo’s legacy is one of failure. They’ve had years to make a difference and haven’t delivered. Instead, they’ve leaned on misinformation and political games to stay afloat. But Edo’s people have had enough.

As Election Day approaches, it’s evident that no amount of fake news or political maneuvering will save Obaseki and his allies. The people of Edo are ready for real change, and candidates like Okpebholo and Akpata remain strong in the race, unaffected by the false narratives.
