Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has called for an investigation into current Governor Godwin Obaseki’s handling of state affairs, just two months before Obaseki’s term concludes. His demand came as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented the Certificate of Return to Senator Monday Okpebholo, who emerged victorious in the recent gubernatorial election.

Oshiomhole urged international bodies, particularly the World Bank, to investigate the management of a $75 million fund allocated for the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation, a fund overseen by Obaseki’s administration. The former governor also expressed joy over the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing victory in the election, with Okpebholo defeating the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

During his address, Oshiomhole emphasized the importance of Okpebholo’s mandate to restore credibility in governance and prioritize the education sector’s revival. He also encouraged opposition parties to collaborate with the new administration for the benefit of the people of Edo State.

In the election, Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, surpassing Ighodalo’s 247,274. Ighodalo, however, has challenged the results, alleging electoral malpractice and vowing to take legal action. Despite the tensions, Okpebholo expressed his commitment to serving the citizens and welcomed input from the opposition to ensure a prosperous future for Edo State.
