Police Personnel to Wear Black Bands for Seven Days in Mourning of Late COAS Lagbaja

In a heartfelt tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered all personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to wear black bands for seven days. This gesture aims to honor the late General, who passed away on Wednesday after battling an undisclosed illness.

The presidency confirmed the death of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, and President Bola Tinubu immediately ordered national flags to be flown at half-mast for a week as a sign of respect. IGP Egbetokun’s directive emphasizes the importance of recognizing the contributions of the late COAS, who played a significant role in Nigeria’s fight against violent crime and insurgency.

A statement from the Nigeria Police Force, issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, highlighted that the black bands would serve as a symbol of mourning and solidarity. The statement concluded with a respectful note: “He was a distinguished leader who earned the respect of all. May the soul of the late COAS rest in peace.”
