Premier League clubs have voted to approve significant changes to the rules governing Associated Party Transactions (APTs). At a meeting in London on Friday, the clubs swiftly passed the revisions with a vote of 16 in favor and 4 against, with Manchester City and Aston Villa among those opposing the adjustments.

The decision followed concerns raised by Manchester City earlier this year, when an independent panel found parts of the Premier League’s regulations to be unlawful. The modifications aim to better assess shareholder loans and remove certain amendments to APT rules introduced earlier this year.

The updated regulations are designed to prevent clubs from benefiting unfairly through commercial deals or cost reductions linked to associated parties.

For the rule changes to be approved, a majority of 14 Premier League clubs was required. The new regulations are expected to ensure a more transparent and level playing field across the league.
