Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed optimism that the ongoing political battles faced by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will ultimately mold him into a seasoned political leader. Jonathan made this assertion during the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition held on Sunday at Nihi Community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

At the event, which doubled as the 10th Anniversary of the Coronation of His Royal Highness, Eze Ken O. Nwala, Governor Fubara was honored with the chieftaincy title of Dike Oha 1 of Etche land, conferred by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers. Jonathan also received the title of Eze Udo 1 of Etche land in recognition of his contributions to peace and development.

Support for Fubara Amid Political Turmoil
Speaking during the occasion, Jonathan acknowledged the political crisis Fubara has faced since taking office, including a fallout with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and surviving an impeachment attempt. He advised the governor to remain steadfast, noting that such challenges are integral to leadership growth.

“Nobody becomes a General without fighting wars,” Jonathan remarked. “The challenges you are facing are preparing you to become a better leader. With your dedication and the support of the people of Rivers State, you will overcome and emerge stronger.”

Rivers State’s Role in National Stability
The former president emphasized the strategic importance of Rivers State to Nigeria’s economy and national peace, urging stakeholders to maintain calm and support Fubara’s administration.

“Rivers State is the center of the Niger Delta. If there’s a crisis here, it affects the entire country negatively. Let’s ensure peace in Rivers, allow the governor to work, and understand that political offices are temporary,” Jonathan added.

Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for the recognition and Jonathan’s unwavering support during the challenging times of his administration. He promised to remain committed to improving the lives of Rivers people through impactful projects and social services.

“I am deeply honored by this title and the support from our father, President Jonathan,” Fubara stated. “He has stood by me during difficult periods, and I am committed to serving the people of Rivers State with dedication and humility.”

The event showcased the vibrant culture and agricultural heritage of Etche, often referred to as the “food basket” of Rivers State. It brought together dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members to celebrate unity and development in the region.
