Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has taken a significant step to bolster security in the region by donating 10 additional patrol vehicles to the Nigerian Army. This initiative aims to support military efforts in combating banditry and ensuring the safety of citizens across Sokoto State.

During the vehicle presentation to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mutawalle, Aliyu praised President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the nation’s security challenges. He noted that the president’s directive for the Defence Minister and service chiefs to relocate to Sokoto reflects a strong commitment to fighting banditry and criminal activities not only within the state but throughout the North-West.

Aliyu shared, “In my meeting with Mr. President, we had an in-depth discussion regarding the security situation in our beloved state. He assured me of his unwavering support in resolving the pressing security issues we face. Mr. President has fulfilled his promise by deploying the Honourable Minister and service chiefs, and we are already witnessing positive changes; we are sincerely grateful.”

The 10 new vehicles are in addition to the 100 vehicles previously provided to security agencies for the ongoing fight against banditry in Sokoto. Governor Aliyu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies, stating that collaborative efforts are essential for ensuring peace in the state. He emphasized, “Security is my top priority within my nine-point agenda. We will take every necessary action within the law to protect our people.”

Acknowledging the Minister for State for Defence, Aliyu commended his dedication to improving the security landscape of the North-West. “The minister has displayed resilience by venturing into areas once deemed ‘NO GO,’ bringing hope back to communities that had been abandoned,” he remarked.

In his remarks, Minister Mutawalle noted that the presidential directive for them to relocate to Sokoto was a direct result of the persistent advocacy from Governor Aliyu. He highlighted the government’s commitment to further enhance security measures in the region, including the planned acquisition of CMG vehicles for a new operation dubbed “FANSAR YAMMA,” specifically targeting the North-West.

Mutawalle expressed confidence in the military’s continued support for Governor Aliyu’s efforts to ensure lasting peace in Sokoto. “The people of Sokoto are fortunate to have a leader like Ahmed Aliyu, who genuinely cares for their well-being,” he added, assuring that the newly provided vehicles will be utilized effectively to eliminate banditry.

Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the GOC of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto, extended gratitude to the governor for his ongoing support to the military and assured him of their readiness to combat banditry decisively. Following the event, the minister, along with military officials and Governor Aliyu, took a ride in one of the newly donated Buffalo vans, showcasing the state’s commitment to improving security for its citizens.
