Sokoto Governor Vows to Modernize Health Training Schools

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has promised to upgrade the state’s health training institutions with state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring they produce highly skilled healthcare professionals.

Speaking on Sunday during a reception honoring Dr. Abubakar Faruk, the outgoing Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Aliyu highlighted the urgent need to modernize the outdated teaching facilities in the state’s health institutions. He stressed that outdated equipment hampers effective education, making modernization essential for aligning with global standards.

“We cannot continue with obsolete teaching equipment in our health training institutions when technology is advancing rapidly,” Aliyu stated. He further emphasized that upgrading the health sector remains a top priority in his administration’s nine-point smart agenda.

In a move to bolster the healthcare workforce, the governor announced the recent recruitment of over 800 nurses and midwives who had been awaiting employment for nine years. This initiative aims to address the state’s urgent need for healthcare personnel to improve service delivery.

Governor Aliyu also lauded Faruk’s contributions to the development of the School of Nursing in Sokoto and pledged to utilize his expertise for the state’s benefit. At the event, Aliyu presented the ‘Award of Excellence’ from Senator Aliyu Wamakko to Dr. Faruk, recognizing his dedicated service to both the state and the nation.
