Thugs disrupted the protest grounds in Port Harcourt, claiming they wanted to prevent any demonstrations in Rivers State. The area, previously designated for the “FearlessInOctober” protest against the country’s economic hardships, was overtaken by cane-wielding hoodlums.

On Tuesday, these individuals took control of the site, threatening anyone who attempted to document their presence, including journalists. Their intimidation tactics were aimed at quelling dissent as citizens sought to voice their concerns.

Across Nigeria, protests are also unfolding in major cities like Lagos and Abuja, coinciding with the nation’s 64th Independence Day celebration. Demonstrators are urging President Bola Tinubu’s administration to reconsider the removal of petrol subsidies and forex unification—policies they believe are contributing to the rising inflation and increased living costs in the country.
