President Bola Tinubu proudly led Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other distinguished Nigerians in commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The event reached its peak with a grand military parade held in the forecourt of the villa, filled with vibrant celebrations. A substantial number of plain-clothes security personnel and members of the Nigerian Police, monitored by the elite Brigade of Guards, ensured a secure atmosphere for the festivities.

Arriving at 10 a.m., President Tinubu was warmly welcomed by a band of pipers who led him to the ceremony after he inspected the Quarter Guard mounted by the Guards Brigade. He then ascended the saluting dais, where he received the national salute as the Special Guest of Honour, officially starting the day’s events.

This year’s anniversary featured a ceremonial change of guards, allowing the Nigerian Armed Forces Colour patrol and various displays that highlighted the nation’s military and cultural pride. A captivating silent drill performed by the Guards Brigade impressed the audience, which included cabinet ministers, presidential aides, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Guests enjoyed an array of performances by a combined mass band and cultural troupe, representing the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, showcasing the country’s rich diversity.

The ceremony concluded with President Tinubu signing the anniversary register, accompanied by Vice President Shettima, National Assembly leaders, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the National Security Adviser. To further symbolize peace, the President cut an anniversary cake and released pigeons into the sky.
