The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth during the distribution of start-up kits to 689 graduates of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) youth transformation programme in Benue State. Represented by his Chief of Staff, Simeon Tyungu, Akume emphasized that the government remains committed to uplifting the nation, especially its youth.

During the event, Akume highlighted several key government initiatives aimed at promoting the development of Nigeria, including the N-HYPPADEC youth vocational training programme. He noted that the program, which aims to provide skills training to 5,000 youth across six states, was a critical component of the administration’s broader strategy for socio-economic growth. The initiative was first launched in Minna, Niger State, with the distribution of 365 start-up kits, followed by similar efforts in Jos, Plateau State, earlier this week.

“We will continue to support N-HYPPADEC in all its endeavors, as these efforts directly contribute to Nigeria’s growth and development,” Akume said, emphasizing the program’s potential to foster a stronger, more prosperous nation.

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, who was represented by his Deputy, Sam Ode, also commended the federal government’s initiatives. He highlighted the importance of taking youth off the streets, urging the beneficiaries to use their new skills to embark on productive careers that would improve their lives and communities.

N-HYPPADEC Managing Director, Abubakar Yelwa, shared details of the training program, noting that 689 youths had received training in 29 vocational areas. These included traditional skills such as Fashion Design, Fish Farming, and Poultry Farming, as well as modern skills like Computer Software Development, Web Design, CCTV Installation, and Phone Repairs, all preparing the youth for the digital economy.

Yelwa explained that the program was designed to support communities impacted by recurring floods, which have left many young people vulnerable to poverty and social unrest. Through this initiative, the government aims to provide opportunities that will help young Nigerians build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the country’s development.
