Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to address allegations of financial mismanagement during his time in office. Bello arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal team, driving himself in a black Hilux vehicle.

This development follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that reaffirmed the constitutionality of the EFCC, paving the way for further investigations into corruption cases. Bello’s visit comes amidst growing speculation after last week’s reports suggested he would meet with the anti-graft agency, though his media aides had remained silent on the matter.

At a previous hearing on November 14, the EFCC requested an adjournment in a fresh case against Bello before Justice Maryanne Anenih at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. The agency cited the need for more time to finalize summons for the former governor. While Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, were granted administrative bail, the EFCC sought an extension for Bello’s appearance. The court has scheduled his arraignment for November 27.

Bello’s legal challenges highlight ongoing efforts to combat alleged corruption in Nigeria, with the EFCC intensifying its scrutiny of high-profile cases. Meanwhile, related investigations, including probes into state contracts and other financial irregularities, continue to draw national attention.
