Operatives from the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 44 individuals believed to be involved in internet fraud across various locations in Ebonyi and Anambra States. The arrests occurred during the early hours of September 28 and 29, 2024, following reliable intelligence pointing to their alleged online criminal activities.

Initial investigations revealed that these suspects exploited popular social media platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, to scam unsuspecting victims.

According to a statement from the EFCC, some individuals were found using fake identities to engage in romantic relationships with foreign nationals, intending to deceive them financially. Others were discovered with fraudulent documents stored on their devices.

Authorities seized several items during the operation, including laptops and various models of advanced mobile phones. The suspects will face legal action once the investigation is complete.
