The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fiercely criticized former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting public unrest over Nigeria’s ongoing economic difficulties. The party’s response came after Amaechi voiced disappointment in a recent interview with ABN TV, where he expressed surprise at the lack of public protests, especially among the youth, regarding rising living costs.

In the interview, Amaechi highlighted the high cost of living, fuel price increases, and economic hardships, criticizing citizens for not responding more actively through demonstrations. His comments were met with sharp condemnation from the APC, which labeled his statements as “irresponsible and unpatriotic.”

APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, issued a statement on Friday titled, “Rotimi Amaechi, Inciting Anarchy Is Irresponsible and Unpatriotic”. The statement condemned the former minister’s rhetoric, accusing him of attempting to exploit public discontent for political gain. Morka remarked that Amaechi’s long tenure in government, spanning over two decades, makes his comments particularly hypocritical.

According to Morka, the former Rivers State governor’s words are dangerous and seek to incite unnecessary unrest, exploiting the challenges resulting from reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He stressed that the economic reforms are starting to show positive results and urged Nigerians to remain patient while the government continues its efforts to stabilize the nation.

The APC also extended its criticism to other opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing them of expressing discontent purely out of frustration over losing political power. The party urged Nigerians not to be swayed by the opposition’s attempts to incite public protests for personal political objectives.

Morka further dismissed Amaechi’s claims about government corruption, pointing out the irony that someone who held power for over two decades should now criticize the system. The statement questioned Amaechi’s credibility, noting that if he had been involved in misconduct as he implied, he should not be facing financial difficulties now.

In closing, the APC reiterated its dedication to guiding Nigeria through its economic recovery, asking citizens to support the administration’s bold reforms. The party also criticized Amaechi for ignoring political issues in his home state of Rivers, where a crisis between former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Governor Sim Fubara continues to unfold.

“We urge Nigerians to reject the call to anarchy from Amaechi and his political allies,” the statement concluded, adding that Amaechi’s actions were reckless and served only to further his personal political agenda rather than the public good.
