Hoodlums have ignited chaos in Akwa Ibom State by setting the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) office ablaze in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. This alarming act has raised suspicions of a calculated effort to disrupt the ongoing local government elections.

The Akwa Ibom Police Command confirmed the incident, emphasizing that despite the fire, essential electoral materials remained safe and the elections proceeded as planned. Police Public Relations Officer ASP Timfon John stated, “Some hoodlums partially set the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom ablaze, but the election materials remained intact. The election is also ongoing.”

In response to the attack, security measures have been intensified across all AKISIEC offices and strategic locations throughout the state to deter further acts of sabotage. John assured the public that law enforcement is committed to ensuring the elections run smoothly and without interruption.
