A’Ibom Governor Appoints Daughter as Acting First Lady, Dispels Remarriage Rumors

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has named his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady of the state, following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno. This announcement came during a condolence visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other dignitaries in Uyo on Friday.
Governor Eno explained that his daughter would take over the responsibilities of the First Lady’s Office, continuing the projects and initiatives spearheaded by his late wife, particularly the Golden Initiative For All. “To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office,” Eno said. He assured that she would work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare.
Eno expressed his confidence in Helen’s capability to uphold her mother’s values and vision, reinforcing his commitment to preserving the ongoing projects. He emotionally described his late wife as his “greatest supporter and toughest critic,” reflecting on their shared journey and her irreplaceable presence.

In a separate interaction with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Eno addressed rumors about remarrying, humorously dismissing the speculation by saying, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price.”
Governor Eno’s decision has been met with widespread approval, with many seeing it as a thoughtful way to honor his late wife’s legacy while continuing her impactful work across Akwa Ibom State.
