Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has suspended Habibu Umar, the member representing Kirfi local government in the state House of Assembly, over alleged acts of insubordination. This decision, effective from November 25, 2024, was announced through a letter addressed to the House Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman, and signed by the state chairman, Sama’ila Burga.

According to the letter, Umar faced disciplinary action following a report from his ward in Beni, which accused him of violating Sections 58 (9) (1) and (f) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended). The party had issued a query to Umar on November 5, 2024, seeking clarification on his actions before escalating the matter.

Burga explained that a disciplinary committee was formed on November 11, 2024, to investigate the allegations. “The committee, after critical investigation and evaluation of the facts before it, found the honourable member guilty of the said offence and therefore recommended his suspension with immediate effect,” the chairman stated. The suspension is indefinite, barring Umar from participating in any party activities pending further developments.

Reports from party insiders suggest that the suspension may be linked to Umar’s alleged alignment with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. However, the PDP has yet to comment on these speculations.
