The Simon Ekpa-led Biafra Republic Government In-Exile has announced its intention to fully support all United Nations human rights treaties during the upcoming Biafra Declaration Convention. This declaration was made by Ekpa during an X space meeting on Thursday, where he emphasized the importance of these treaties in highlighting the ongoing marginalization of Biafra by the Nigerian government.

Ekpa argued that the continued discrimination against Biafrans, particularly in the South-East region of Nigeria, has been a longstanding issue since the conflict in 1967. He pointed out that the primary motivation behind the Biafra independence movement is the relentless exclusion of the Biafran people from the nation’s political and economic landscape.

“The Biafra Government will assent to all United Nations Human Rights Treaties during the Convention. We are fighting for Biafra’s independence because of the constant marginalisation by the Nigerian government,” Ekpa declared.

The Biafra Declaration Convention is scheduled to take place between November 28 and December 2, 2024. As part of preparations for the event, Ekpa has also sent an official invitation to the Finnish government to participate in the proceedings.

This move comes amidst the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, a prominent leader of the Biafra agitation, who has been held by the Nigerian government since 2021 for his involvement in the movement.
