Comrade Timi Frank, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the federal government to compensate minors arrested and detained during the #EndBadGovernance protests. In a statement released on Tuesday, Frank expressed his approval of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to order the immediate release of these minors and other protesters, describing it as a commendable step forward.

Frank highlighted the President’s action as a necessary response to the widespread concerns of both Nigerians and the international community regarding the treatment of minors in custody. While he praised the release, he also emphasized the importance of accountability and reform within the intelligence community, particularly criticizing the extended detention of minors for over 90 days without adequate intervention from the President’s office.

In his statement, Frank called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding these detentions, directing particular scrutiny towards Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the police commissioners in Kano and Kaduna, who were involved in the arrests. He insisted that this investigation must not be overlooked, promising to monitor the process closely and advocating for public disclosure of the findings.

To assist the minors affected by this situation, Frank urged the government to provide financial aid to their families, offer scholarships, and facilitate their enrollment in reputable boarding schools. He also recommended that the minors receive professional counseling to help them cope with the psychological impact of their experiences in detention.

“By taking these measures, we can begin to heal the wounds of the past and foster a more just and compassionate society for all Nigerians,” Frank remarked, stressing the need for a proactive approach to ensure the well-being of the youth in Nigeria.
