Chidimma Adetshina, crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, has been officially appointed as the brand ambassador for Enugu State. This announcement came from Governor Peter Mbah in a post on X, following a festive welcome for the beauty queen on Tuesday, marked by traditional performances and celebratory banners in her honor.

Adetshina, 23, boasts dual citizenship, having been born in South Africa to a Nigerian father from Enugu State and a Mozambican mother who is now a naturalized South African. Her journey has not been without challenges; she faced criticism during the Miss South Africa 2024 competition due to her Nigerian roots, prompting her withdrawal and subsequent victory in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant on August 30.

In his statement, Governor Mbah highlighted that Adetshina’s appointment reflects her tenacity and determination—qualities that embody the spirit of the Enugu people. “Today, I appointed Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Onwe Adetshina, as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. Chidimma is a proud daughter of Amurri in Nkanu West LGA, who exemplifies the resilience and resolve that characterize Ndi Enugu. Her remarkable journey is a testament to the grit we are known for, and I take immense pride in welcoming her home,” he stated.

The governor further expressed hope that Adetshina’s story would inspire youth, particularly young women, to pursue their ambitions. “We look forward to collaborating with her on initiatives aimed at empowering our young people. Our administration is deeply committed to youth development, dedicating 33% of our budget to education. We believe that Enugu’s true wealth lies in our human resources, and Chidimma’s accomplishments reinforce this belief.”

In response to her new role, Adetshina shared her appreciation on Instagram, recalling how this opportunity came during a challenging phase in her life. “I received the honour of being in the presence of the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah. Upon my homecoming, I was appointed as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. I cannot express my gratitude for the wonderful things I have achieved in my father’s land. Nigeria, thank you for picking me up when I was on my knees,” she wrote.

As a 300-level law student, Adetshina is set to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November. Wishing her the best, Governor Mbah stated, “As she prepares to represent Nigeria and Enugu on the global stage, she carries our full support and pride. We are confident she will continue to shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience.”
