Residents of Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic after suspected terrorists invaded the community, killing a vigilante commander and shooting the Chief Security Officer during a fresh attack that has intensified fears across Kwara South.

The attack was reported to have occurred when armed men stormed the community and opened fire on local security operatives. During the attack, the vigilante commander was killed while the Chief Security Officer of the community was shot and seriously injured. The incident was said to have caused fear among residents, many of whom fled their homes for safety following the sound of gunshots.

It was gathered that the attackers arrived the community on motorcycles and began shooting sporadically, targeting local vigilante members who were responsible for community security. The vigilante commander was reportedly killed during an exchange of gunfire, while the Chief Security Officer sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.

The latest attack was said to be part of the growing insecurity affecting several communities in Kwara State, especially in the southern part of the state where repeated attacks, kidnappings and killings have been recorded in recent months. Residents have continued to express concern that attacks were becoming frequent despite earlier security warnings and alerts raised by local security groups.

Security sources revealed that local vigilante groups had previously raised alarm about possible attacks in some communities, but the attackers still carried out the operation. The attack has further heightened tension in Oro-Ago and neighbouring communities, with many residents reportedly fleeing to safer areas.
