Edo State House of Assembly has reinstated two lawmakers, Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor, after a five-month suspension. The recall of these members, originally suspended over allegations of plotting to impeach Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and other key officers, marks a significant development in the Assembly.

On Wednesday, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku announced their reinstatement during a plenary session held in Benin. Okogbe, representing Akoko-Edo II (PDP), and Isibor, representing Esan North-East I (APC), were suspended alongside Bright Iyamu on May 6 for their alleged involvement in the impeachment plot. Iyamu, however, was recalled in June after showing remorse, according to Agbebaku.

Congratulating the newly-elected governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, Speaker Agbebaku emphasized that the governor-elect would serve all Edo people, irrespective of party affiliation. He urged that sycophants should not influence the new administration.

The session also saw the approval of a 57-day sitting calendar for the Assembly’s second session’s second quarter. Speaker Agbebaku praised the lawmakers for their dedication to passing impactful bills and resolutions during the long recess.
