The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is addressing Nigeria’s growing food security crisis with its 2024 Annual Colloquium. The event, themed “Galvanising Public and Private Stakeholders Towards Addressing Food Crisis in Nigeria: Public Relations as Key Driver,” aims to create a collaborative platform for public and private sectors to find lasting solutions to the nation’s pressing food challenges.

Scheduled for Thursday at the Cinema Hall of the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the colloquium is set to bring together experts and key players in the agricultural sector. In a joint statement released by Ogun NIPR Chairman, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, and Secretary, Mr. Kunle Olayeni, it was confirmed that the Special Guest of Honour will be Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The event will feature a keynote address by Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, with an emphasis on public-private partnerships and agricultural development. Leading the discourse, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Olusola Kehinde, will present the main paper, sparking discussions on how to harness public relations for tackling food insecurity.

Agricultural entrepreneur Mr. Olakunle Osunsanya, public relations expert Mr. Ayodele Ishola, and chartered accountant Dr. Gbenga Adeoye are among the panelists who will contribute their insights. The participation of key stakeholders across Nigeria’s food production value chain will enrich the dialogue on sustainable solutions.

In recognition of his administration’s contributions to agriculture and food security, Governor Abiodun will be honored with a Distinguished Award. Additionally, FUNAAB will receive an Award of Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility for its significant role in advancing research, teaching, and agricultural services in Nigeria.
