The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo SUBEB) has confirmed the resumption of primary and junior secondary schools across the state on September 30.

In a statement issued by the Board, it was emphasized that all preparations have been made by teachers, headteachers, and key stakeholders to welcome students back into a conducive learning environment, ensuring they benefit from an enhanced academic experience this term.

“We are excited to welcome our pupils back after a long holiday. The EdoBEST programme in our primary and junior secondary schools remains committed to reinforcing foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Additionally, we are stepping up our intervention efforts to support students who may be lagging behind,” said Mrs. Ozavize Salami, Executive Chairman of Edo SUBEB.

Salami highlighted that the EdoBEST initiative has reached a milestone with over 388,000 pupils enrolled across 1,289 state-run schools. She also announced Governor Godwin Obaseki’s approval for the recruitment of 5,500 additional teachers, half of whom are high-performing EdoSTAR fellows who have been teaching in state schools for more than two years.

“We recently concluded the re-training and promotion of more than 6,000 teachers, ensuring that promotions are current. This has greatly boosted teacher morale as the new school term begins,” Salami added.
