The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has kicked off the distribution of non-sensitive election materials in anticipation of the upcoming governorship election on November 16, 2024. During a media briefing in Akure on Saturday, Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola outlined the commission’s preparations for the critical event.

Babalola emphasized that a significant portion of the non-sensitive materials required for the election has already been received and successfully distributed across the state’s 18 local government areas. She assured the public that these materials are securely stored, with INEC coordinating closely with security agencies to ensure their protection.

Detailing the logistics, she explained that the non-sensitive materials would be organized into Registration Areas (RAs) and polling units for efficient dispatch on the eve of the election. Babalola stated, “I am pleased to inform you that a large percentage of the non-sensitive election materials required for the election have been received and deployed to the 18 Local Government Offices, where they are batched to RAs and PUs levels. We are working closely with the relevant security agencies and stakeholders to ensure safe storage and timely distribution of these materials on the eve of the election.”

In addition, the Ondo REC reported that the total number of registered voters in the state has now reached 2,053,061, following the harmonization of new and existing registrations. Among these voters, 1,034,006 are male, making up 50.36 percent of the electorate, while 1,019,055 are female, accounting for 49.64 percent. Notably, youth voters aged between 18 and 35 total 726,944, representing 35.41 percent of the registered voters in the state.
