Fleetwood Town secured their first win of the EFL Trophy campaign at Highbury, showcasing impressive performances from their young talents. Kian Harratt netted a first-half brace, complemented by a stunning finish from 16-year-old Pele Smith, helping the Cod Army to a 3-0 victory against Barrow.

The match kicked off with both teams cautiously exploring opportunities, but it was Fleetwood who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute. Mark Helm, demonstrating exceptional skill, evaded his defender and fired a powerful shot that narrowly missed the target. Following the resulting corner, Barrow failed to clear the ball, allowing Phoenix Patterson to deliver a precise cross. Harratt capitalized with a clinical header, giving Fleetwood the early lead.

Fleetwood maintained control throughout the first half, utilizing their possession-based style to trouble Barrow’s defense. In the 40th minute, Harratt struck again, converting another header from a Patterson corner, solidifying a well-deserved 2-0 advantage at halftime.

After the break, Barrow aimed to mount a comeback, yet they struggled to penetrate Fleetwood’s robust defense. The home side increased their lead in the 70th minute when Pele Smith finished off a well-executed team move, capping off an outstanding performance from Charlie Adam’s squad.

Despite Barrow creating a few late chances to narrow the gap, Fleetwood’s defensive strength ensured a clean sheet for goalkeeper Jay Lynch, who marked his 101st appearance for the club.

This victory brings Fleetwood a step closer to advancing to the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy, with a challenging away match against Bolton next on the agenda.
