Nigerian defender and 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup champion Kingsley Udoh is facing a personal tragedy after the disappearance of his cherished gold medal, an award he believes could have offered him a sense of pride and a potential escape from his present difficulties. Reflecting on his current struggles, the 33-year-old expressed heartbreak on Brila FM over losing the medal, a prized possession once held by his late father.

Kingsley Udoh was an essential part of the Golden Eaglets team that claimed the prestigious U-17 World Cup title in South Korea in 2007. He returned to Nigeria with the coveted gold medal, which was subsequently safeguarded by his father. Since his father’s passing, however, Udoh has not seen the medal, a loss he says symbolizes his current hardship and discouragement.

“I can’t find my U-17 FIFA World Cup gold medal. My father was in charge of it, but after he passed, it disappeared,” Udoh lamented during his emotional interview on Brila FM. “It’s so hard right now. I am struggling to feed myself and cover basic needs. I even wanted to take a coaching course, but I lack the funds,” he continued, highlighting the financial and personal challenges he faces.

Udoh’s football journey has seen him rise through the ranks, representing Nigeria at all levels of international football. On the domestic front, he made a name for himself with notable performances for Akwa United, Heartland, Kano Pillars, and Sunshine Stars in the Nigerian Professional Football League. His dedication and skill also contributed to Nigeria’s victory in the African U-17 Championship in 2007, which preceded the World Cup triumph in South Korea.

This loss of his medal adds to Udoh’s challenges, as he finds himself unable to pursue his coaching ambitions or provide for his daily needs.
