The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity. These warrants also extend to Netanyahu’s former defense chief and Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri, also known as Mohammed Deif. The court’s actions stem from the violence surrounding the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel and the Israeli military’s retaliatory actions in Gaza.

ICC prosecutor Karim Khan confirmed the move on May 20, stating that arrest warrants had been pursued based on evidence gathered concerning the events in Gaza. The court clarified that Israel’s lack of acceptance of its jurisdiction does not prevent the issuance of these warrants.

Israel has consistently rejected the ICC’s authority, denying any war crimes during its military operations. In parallel, Israeli forces claim to have killed Al-Masri in an airstrike, although Hamas has not verified his death. The tension in the region remains high as the conflict between Israel, Hamas, and Iran continues to escalate.
