A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Thursday led to the death of a police officer. The officer, attached to the Mopol 20 Division of the Nigeria Police Force, was crushed after a truck collided with multiple vehicles near Kara Bridge.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the fatal crash. According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the truck collided with a moving bus, causing it to veer off the road and crash into another bus parked on the roadside. In the midst of the chaos, the officer, who was riding a motorcycle, became trapped beneath one of the vehicles and died at the scene.

The crash involved a Volvo truck with registration number FKJ 484 YA, a Toyota Hiace bus (BWR 371 XC), and a Mercedes Benz bus. LASEMA’s emergency team quickly responded, extricated the officer’s body with heavy-duty equipment, and handed it over to the Ojodu Division police for further investigation. The damaged vehicles were also removed and towed away.

The accident caused severe traffic delays, leaving motorists stranded for several hours. Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) reported that efforts were being made to clear the area and restore normal traffic flow.
