In his address to the nation marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, President Bola Tinubu acknowledged the difficult times Nigerians are facing, particularly rising living costs and unemployment. He assured citizens that the government is committed to finding long-term solutions, asking for patience as reforms begin to bear fruit.

“Fellow Nigerians, better days are ahead of us. The challenges of the moment must always make us believe in ourselves. We are Nigerians—resilient and tenacious. We always prevail and rise above our circumstances,” Tinubu emphasized, instilling hope for a brighter future.

Reflecting on the journey since independence, Tinubu highlighted the significant progress made despite crises that have tested the country. From the bitter civil war to overcoming political and economic hurdles, he commended Nigerians’ perseverance in maintaining a united nation. “While it is tempting to focus on what has been left undone, we must never lose sight of how far we have come,” he said, reinforcing the strength in unity.

The President also underscored his administration’s achievements, particularly in the fight against terrorism and banditry. He mentioned the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders in recent months, expressing optimism for peace in affected communities. “We are winning the war on terror and banditry, and we shall not falter on this,” he assured.

Addressing economic issues, Tinubu discussed efforts to secure foreign investments, stabilize the currency, and reduce debt burdens. He revealed that Nigeria attracted over $30 billion in foreign direct investment in the last year, signaling confidence in his government’s economic reforms. Additionally, initiatives to bolster agriculture and mechanized farming were introduced as critical to lowering food costs and enhancing national productivity.

Tinubu also emphasized the importance of youth participation in nation-building, announcing the launch of a National Youth Conference designed to empower Nigeria’s youth to contribute to shaping the country’s future. The conference aims to tackle pressing issues such as education, employment, and innovation while encouraging young Nigerians to play a more active role in policy-making.

In a message filled with hope, Tinubu closed by urging Nigerians to believe in the nation’s potential. “Together, we will cultivate a Nigeria that reflects the aspirations of all its citizens, a nation that resonates with pride, dignity, and shared success,” he concluded, encouraging citizens to join hands in building a greater Nigeria.
