PDP North East Zone Backs Damagum as Acting National Chairman

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North East has officially endorsed Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as the Acting National Chairman. This announcement was made today by Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri through his Chief Press Secretary.
In the statement, Fintiri highlighted the support from the PDP across Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states, expressing confidence in Damagum’s leadership since he took office. He emphasized that a Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order stating that Damagum should complete the tenure of former Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu unless the court decides otherwise.

Governor Fintiri praised Damagum for his efforts in restoring public confidence in the party and called on members to respect the court’s ruling for the sake of the party and democracy. He noted that the performance of the PDP in the North East during the 2023 elections was unprecedented at all levels and stressed that the region deserves the position of National Chairman more than any other area in the North.
Additionally, the court’s ruling bars the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, PDP, INEC, and affiliates from replacing or appointing any Chairman other than Ambassador Damagum, following the restraining order issued by the court.
