The security personnel, who were following a suspect, mistakenly identified the police officers as non-state actors, which led to an exchange of gunfire. During the shooting, a Toyota Venza Sedan carrying police personnel was struck by bullets, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Tragically, two bystanders were injured in the crossfire and are currently receiving medical attention.

The police have made it clear that this incident has no connection to the upcoming burial of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, scheduled for Friday in Nnewi. Authorities reassured the public that security measures are in place to ensure the safety of those attending the burial, and they are working to maintain peace and order in the area.
