The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called for compensation for minors detained by the police for three months, following allegations of terrorism, felony, and arson tied to their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest. In a statement issued on Friday, the caucus demanded a comprehensive investigation into the actions of those responsible for the youths’ detention, along with prosecution and punishment for those who unlawfully incarcerated them.

The statement, signed by Minority Leader Rep. Kingsley Chinda, Minority Whip Dr. Ali Isa J.C., Deputy Minority Leader R. Aliyu Madaki, and Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi, condemned the treatment of the detained minors. The caucus described the actions against them as “despicable, callous, and inhumane,” highlighting concerns over the psychological and physical toll the youths may have endured during their time in custody.

In addition to demanding justice, the caucus called for the provision of medical care and psychological support for the minors, emphasizing the need for healing and reintegration into society. They also underscored the impact of the detention on the minors’ education and future prospects, urging the government to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

The Minority Caucus further requested reparations for the children and their families, to compensate for the hardship, pain, and emotional distress caused by the unlawful detention. They stressed the importance of offering quality reformatory therapy to assist the minors in recovering from the trauma they experienced.
