The Equatorial Guinea government has initiated an extensive investigation into hundreds of leaked pornographic videos allegedly featuring Baltasar Engonga, a high-ranking civil servant, engaged in sexual activities with multiple women, including the wives of prominent officials. In response to this scandal, authorities have ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in government offices and ministries to prevent further “indecent and illicit acts.” The government has also announced the suspension of several implicated officials, marking a swift crackdown on misconduct in public office.

The Vice-President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Mangue, declared on Tuesday that any official caught in similar acts within government premises would face severe sanctions, citing these actions as a “flagrant violation of the code of conduct.” According to a statement issued by the Equatorial Guinea Press and Information Office, the decision underscores the government’s commitment to restoring the country’s image after the scandal brought widespread embarrassment.

Among the new measures are intensified security protocols and the installation of surveillance equipment across judicial and ministerial offices. The government statement described these actions as essential for “correcting the behavior of some officials” in the wake of videos that have “denigrated the image of the country.” Officials also criticized security personnel responsible for not preventing these incidents, indicating that both direct participants and those who failed in their supervisory roles will face disciplinary measures.

Engonga, who is currently under arrest, serves as the Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) and is accused of recording over 400 sex tapes involving high-profile women in Equatorial Guinea. This scandal was reportedly uncovered during an unrelated fraud investigation when authorities found incriminating videos on CDs seized from Engonga’s home and office. The footage allegedly includes encounters with the wives of notable individuals, including members of Engonga’s own family, the President’s sister, and the spouses of around 20 ministers and other government officials.

The viral nature of these videos on social media has sparked intense public discourse, drawing mixed reactions as citizens express outrage and demand accountability. The scandal, labeled the biggest of its kind in Equatorial Guinea and perhaps across Africa, has drawn attention to the need for integrity and security in the public sector.
