Time for Introspection: David Mark Calls on Tinubu and Leaders to Reflect on Nigeria’s Future

Former Senate President David Mark has urged President Bola Tinubu and other leaders to engage in serious introspection as Nigeria marks its 64th independence anniversary. Reflecting on the country’s challenges of insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment, Mark emphasized that this moment calls for a collective reevaluation of leadership and governance.

In a goodwill message to Nigerians, delivered through his media adviser, Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark acknowledged the nation’s struggles but expressed optimism in Nigeria’s potential. He noted that despite insecurity, poverty, and other persistent issues, the country is blessed with abundant human and natural resources. If harnessed through unity and patriotism, these resources could drive significant positive change.

Mark highlighted the lessons to be learned from Nigeria’s turbulent history, including the civil war and recent ethnoreligious conflicts, which he attributed to both leadership failures and a lack of citizen responsibility. He urged leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric, warning that those who exploit ethnic and religious differences are harming the nation’s future.

While acknowledging that progress has been made since the early days of independence, Senator Mark admitted that Nigeria still has a long way to go. He encouraged political leaders to lead by example, putting the needs and well-being of citizens at the forefront of their policies.

Mark concluded his message with a call for unity and collaboration, urging all Nigerians to set aside past differences and focus on building a prosperous, peaceful nation. He also advocated for greater investments in enterprise and production to boost income and reduce capital flight, stressing the need for an environment where everyone can work freely across the country.
