The Nigerian Army, led by Acting Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has initiated a comprehensive military operation targeting the Lukarawa terror group. This armed faction, reportedly associated with extremist factions in Mali and Niger, has been responsible for a series of violent attacks in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The recent escalation in violence, including the brutal killing of 15 residents in Mera, Kebbi, has raised alarms among local authorities. The Lukarawa group has been using financial incentives to recruit local youths, intensifying fears over the growing influence of this militant network.

In response, security forces have been deployed throughout the region to restore peace and stability, with the Nigerian Air Force conducting aerial strikes against the group’s hideouts.
