Nigerian Afrobeat star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has explained his deep interest in the ongoing Edo State gubernatorial election. Taking to his official X account (formerly Twitter), Davido revealed that his personal connection to the state stems from his late mother, who hails from Edo.

Expressing frustration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Davido voiced his concerns over the handling of the election process, comparing it to the challenges faced during the Osun State election.

He tweeted: “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha. @inecnigeria shame on you. I know how many times I had to come here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”

Davido didn’t hold back in his criticism of INEC, calling it the “most dangerous institution in Nigeria.” He urged Edo residents to remain vigilant and fight for a fair election process, warning against voter manipulation and advocating for an extension of voting time.

In his closing remarks, the artist also highlighted how economic hardship is used to exploit voters, saying, “Make them hungry, then make them sell their votes to survive… when our Mumu go do oooo … haba.”

With all eyes turning to the 2026 Osun State election, Davido has made it clear that he won’t hesitate to hold INEC accountable. His strong words have sparked conversations about the transparency and integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
