A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has established a new Board of Trustees as part of its ongoing internal restructuring. The inauguration took place on Friday, marking another chapter in the group’s efforts to reform the opposition party from within.

During the ceremony, the faction’s Acting Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, criticized the existing Board of Trustees led by Adolphus Wabara, accusing it of losing its moral credibility. He described the move as a “renewal of faith” in the PDP’s original values justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law.

“We are not just inaugurating a new Board of Trustees,” Mohammed declared. “We are reaffirming our belief in the ideals that built this political family. The PDP was founded on unity and service, not domination or personal interest.”

He lamented that internal disputes and ineffective leadership had eroded the party’s foundation over the years. According to him, the previous Board failed to uphold its mission, straying from the principles that once made the PDP a strong national force.

Mohammed also referenced the suspension of Wabara by the Abia State chapter over alleged anti-party activities, saying it was a necessary step to restore credibility. He insisted that the old leadership could no longer provide meaningful guidance to the party.

The Acting Chairman further faulted the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, for prioritizing convenience and loyalty over the party’s constitution.

Despite the tensions, members of the Wike-aligned faction expressed optimism that the newly formed Board would bring stability, transparency, and moral discipline back to the PDP. They pledged to rebuild trust among members and reposition the party as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
