Dino Melaye Fires Warning Shot at Damagum: “Politics 101 Coming Your Way”

Former Kogi Central Senator Dino Melaye has issued a sharp warning to the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, and his allies amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the party. Melaye hinted that Damagum and his backers are set to face a tough political lesson, referencing unresolved tensions from past PDP primary elections in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
In a post on X, Melaye stated, “Damagum and his paymasters will be taught elementary politics 101. The lessons from the Port Harcourt and Abuja presidential primaries have not been learned. It’s too early to decide the day at noon.” His remarks come as the PDP continues to grapple with internal divisions following the removal of former acting National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.

The leadership tussle escalated recently when a faction of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) announced the suspension of Damagum, along with National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the Abuja Federal High Court intervened, issuing a restraining order to halt Damagum’s removal. The court ruled that Damagum will remain in his position as acting National Chairman until the party’s national convention, scheduled for December 2025.
The PDP crisis has sparked intense debate over its future direction, with party loyalists and analysts alike closely monitoring how Damagum and his team navigate the unfolding challenges. As Melaye’s comments signal more internal power plays ahead, the stakes remain high for Nigeria’s leading opposition party.
