Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, has narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. Okojie, who is married to popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, was reportedly attacked by armed men believed to be political thugs at his residence in Uromi on Friday morning.

Incident Details
The attack was confirmed by Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, who stated that the assailants arrived at the lawmaker’s home in a Lexus GX 470 bearing a Rivers State license plate number—PHC 253 FF. Fortunately, the assassination attempt was thwarted by the quick response of Okojie’s security personnel.

According to the statement, the armed intruders, disguised as police officers, entered Okojie’s residence claiming to have an appointment. They made their way into the sitting room, but the lawmaker’s security team intervened just in time, causing two of the attackers to flee the scene.

Arrests and Investigations
The remaining suspects, including the driver, were apprehended and are currently being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi. Reports indicate that the assailants have confessed to being sent by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Esan North East Local Government Area.

Efforts to reach the Edo State Police Command for further comments on the incident have been unsuccessful.
