Femi Falana, the renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has addressed the ongoing controversy involving Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan (VDM), rejecting VDM’s apology and insisting on proceeding with legal action. Falana, who has been trending recently for his involvement in the matter, clarified his stance, stating that the only reason he hasn’t pursued a criminal case against VDM is due to his commitment to free speech advocacy.

According to Falana, Bobrisky had contacted his son, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, asking for ₦3 million to facilitate a move to a VIP section in prison. During the call, Falz questioned whether the request was authorized by prison officials, to which Bobrisky said no. Falz immediately condemned the request and refused to assist Bobrisky, advising him to respect the law and avoid further complications while incarcerated. He further instructed Bobrisky to only use authorized prison communication methods such as writing a letter.

Femi Falana emphasized that Falz did not initiate the call and has never requested monetary compensation for helping anyone. In fact, Falana added humorously that his wife frequently complains about the amount of free legal work they do. Despite VDM’s apology, Falana insisted that unless a satisfactory public retraction is made, the case will move forward in court.

VeryDarkMan (VDM) quickly responded, describing the legal threats as distractions from more pressing issues like the corruption within the EFCC and prison systems. While expressing his respect for the Falana family, VDM maintained that he refuses to be jailed for this matter, urging Nigerians to focus on the real issues. He argued that if Falana plans to pursue the case, Bobrisky should also be held accountable, criticizing the selective focus on him alone.

VDM concluded by reiterating that even if jail time were to happen, it would not diminish his respect for Femi Falana. He dismissed the drama as a temporary distraction, emphasizing his stance on fighting corruption.

Nigerians have taken sides in the ongoing saga, with some supporting Falana’s decision while others feel that the legal focus on VDM is unfair. Meanwhile, Folake Falana, Falz’s sister, recently stated that once their legal matters with Martins Otse are concluded, Bobrisky’s case will also be addressed.
