The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered illegal counterfeit alcohol packaging centres at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State. During the operation, the agency seized materials worth an estimated ₦2 billion, highlighting the growing threat of fake alcoholic beverages in the market.

NAFDAC’s statement, released on Thursday via X, revealed that over 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials were confiscated during the raid. These materials were being used in the illegal production of alcoholic drinks that can pose significant health risks to consumers.

The agency has stressed the dangers of consuming unauthorized alcohol products, which may cause poisoning, organ damage, and other serious health issues. In light of this discovery, NAFDAC is calling on the public to be cautious when purchasing alcoholic beverages, urging consumers to only buy from trusted vendors and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest NAFDAC office.

With this crackdown, NAFDAC aims to protect public health and ensure that only safe, approved alcoholic products are available on the market.
